Art

Image
The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. is currently hosting a number of works by Thomas Cole , which I had the pleasure of seeing yesterday while I was in the District. They didn't have Romantic Landscape with Ruined Tower , unfortunately (that's at the Albany Institute of History and Art), but they did have one that looked quite a bit like it— Italian Coast Scene with Ruined Tower . I'm not a huge art admirer, but it was probably the coolest museum I've ever been to, so if you're around there definitely take a look.

Bandcamp

After some experimenting with the site I've decided to start using Bandcamp for managing my music downloads. I'm currently in the process of uploading stuff. Antimonument , Lifting of the Veil , and Cleanse are all available as name-your-own-price downloads in a variety of formats (including FLAC). The new stuff will be going up there as well. You can check it all out at http://deterior.bandcamp.com/ .

preorders up

You can now pre-order the Antimonument and Music for Tapes CD-Rs! They will start shipping on the 27th. Each one is $7 (plus shipping). Antimonument: Music for Tapes:

CD-Rs: a reality

thanks to fan input (yeah I do listen to you) I'm working on releasing a limited CD-R run of the following: Music for Tapes , a compilation of all three noise tapes—yes, including the as-yet-unreleased final installment Music for Battery Antimonument due to demand these will be available very soon. both are going to be very limited (depending on demand, really) so when I finally get around to fixing my PayPal store act fast. update one: inserts have been printed. they look badass except I didn't measure quite right and I have to trim them a lot. that's what I get for being hasty. update two: I now have some CDs and cases; I'll have them packaged up by the end of the week. update three: masters have been burned. it sounds great even with my crappy earbuds (I'll need to listen on good stereo later). update four: attempts to spray a test disc with engine enamel spray paint went okay. probably Saturday I'll whip up a batch of decorated discs, as tomorrow I'l...

Antimonument

Antimonument by Deterior I am very pleased to finally release this: my first full-length album, entitled Antimonument . rather than give an overview of this piece, I'd rather let the art speak for itself. the time has come

mixing is done. mastering is done. the final pieces are falling into place, one by one. may 20.

mixing (2)

so mixing is about 95% done. it's sounding amazing at the moment; it's astonishing what one can learn doing this on one's own. I need to make a few more tweaks to the sound but it's looking like the record may drop next week or the week after. that's what I'm hoping, anyway. Spire is coming together as well (however slowly); it'll be out after the album. currently, it's shaping up to include three alternate mixes of "spire", one of "antimonument", and one of "sunset and destroyer". I don't want to say any more yet because the details are really sketchy at the moment.

mixing

recording is now totally done. (well, it was done several days ago, actually, but I've been busy.) mixing is going splendidly as of now, especially since I've actually been working on the mix from very early on. I hope to have everything finished by the end of the month (sooner, if possible), but since the end of the quarter has been a bit crazy I'm not entirely sure about it. now is also a good time to mention the remix ep. I've asked a few friends to provide remixes of "spire" to be released around the same time. more updates on that will be posted here so keep an eye out.

bass

Image
bass is done. only two (maybe three) tracks' worth of drums are left to be completed. here's a neato poster I made, too.

welcome

this is the new official deterior blog. this is likely to somewhat replace the awkwardness of myspace , though I'll still be using that to post major news items and new music. about the project: formed in the u.s. 2004; one ep out and one lp in the works, independently released in mp3 format only (though if you ask nicely I could spin a cd-r your way). style is an amalgamation of metal, prog, post-anything, ambient, noise. so: news. progress on Antimonument is coming along splendidly. it's hard to say exactly where I am in the process, since I tend to do many different things all at once, but I'm currently finishing recording bass and drum tracks (only a few left to go) and mixing the whole thing. a preview of the sixth track and something of a single, "Spire", can be heard on the myspace (however, it's not close to being done yet). I'm throwing around the idea of a maxi single + remixes at some point, but who knows. World can still be downloaded for fre...
