Here it is, finally: four covers given the Deterior treatment. I can't put it on Bandcamp because of their terms and conditions, and Mediafire appears to be broken, so here it is on Multiupload instead. http://www.multiupload.com/4N7ROPECR0 (V0 MP3) label: GarageMonkey Productions (GMP-027) format: digital file released: 3 May 2011 time: 21:27 recorded and engineered by Andrew Arnold in Studio 205 from 2009–2010 mixed and mastered by Andrew Arnold Studio 205 in April 2011 cover art: Deterior tracklist: Screaming at a Wall (4:18) [Minor Threat] Light Leaves (5:12) [Why?] The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack (5:44) [Liars] Waiting Room (Version 2) (6:13) [Fugazi]

Ectype: Official Announcement!

I've finally decided to finish Ectype . It has actually been almost-done for a while now; it was mostly a combination of working on other things and forgetting it existed. But now it's officially coming! Bandcamp's conditions disallow uploading covers (don't tell them about "Waiting Room"), so I'll just put up a Mediafire link on May 3. The tracklist will be as follows: Screaming at a Wall (Minor Threat, originally from Minor Threat ) Light Leaves (Why?, originally from Elephant Eyelash ) The Other Side of Mt. Heart Attack (Liars, originally from Drum's Not Dead ) Waiting Room (Fugazi, originally from Fugazi ) "Screaming at a Wall" is a slightly different mix than that which appeared on the Rate Your Music compilation. "Waiting Room" is a completely different version. Sorry about the two-year wait.

those EPs

Well now that I've finished with just about everything for the new album (and have upgraded my DAW! wooo!), I've been contemplating rebooting that covers EP Ectype and the re-recording of World . Ectype is definitely going to have some different songs on it (I think I'll keep the Liars and Why? covers; they were the only two that sounded half-decent). I should have time to crank those out over the summer. So maybe fall we'll see some new stuff (and some new old stuff).

hello

I suppose I should apologize for the severe lack of updates lately... one a month really isn't as much as I should be writing, I feel. the reason for that is probably because there's been a lot of stuff going on with me lately, mostly classwork, but rest assured that I am working on a ton of music-related stuff; it just won't come to fruition for a while, I suppose. here's a quick rundown: I have not worked on Ectype in a long time, but it is actually nearing completion; it just needs bass recorded and mixing/mastering. vocals and half of the guitar for the re-recorded edition of World are finished. I'm working on developing a more polished guitar tone via effects added during mixing instead of during recording, which should shape up to be interesting. I probably already mentioned that I have a new, more professional-sounding drum machine; it's pretty cool. I still haven't been able to press Music for Battery though I'll probably be able to over Than...

songwriting

two songs have been written for the upcoming new album. of course I may not use them, or rewrite them, or whatever; but the point is I am actually making some progress. on that note, I'm moving back to my Columbus studio in a couple weeks to finish off Ectype . Music for Battery should be out soon after that, though I still haven't even gotten the tapes pressed (yeah, I've been lazy).

woo more delays

so apparently Audacity thought it would be cool to just delete some of my bass recordings for Ectype . what a jerk. and of course I decided not to bring my bass with me for whatever reason. I could record using another bass but nobody here owns a 5-string (what is the world coming to?). of course this might have something to do with having no space on my hard drive, but regardless, I need to re-record stuff. friggin computers.

notice

I am currently away from the studio, and will be for at most the next 3 months or so. so if you want to order a tape, I will probably not be able to ship it out until late September at the latest. sorry about all that but it's more or less beyond my control. sort of. on the other hand, I will have lots more time to work on stuff, so Ectype (which has been sitting on my computer untouched for a long time as the school year was ending) will finally get proper engineering/mixing/mastering pretty soon. so look for that in perhaps mid-July? oh and don't forget to check out the GarageMonkey Productions blog ; there's been quite a few new things popping up over there.

ectype (and other) details

okay so apparently I have failed to say anything detailed about the covers EP Ectype that's in the works. right now it's looking like it's going to be four songs, covering Depeche Mode, Why?, Liars, and Venetian Snares. currently everything but the bass is recorded and I'm mixing stuff. unfortunately it's been taking a while because I've been really busy with school; fortunately that's winding down soon. hopefully it will be ready to go in June or July. of course we also have the final noise tape, Music for Battery , has been finished for a while and is awaiting pressing. that may happen this weekend, actually. as the name implies the sounds are drum-based, and it's much harsher and more textured than Music for Automata (at least, I think so). that may be out in July or August or something like that. a re-recording of the debut EP World is sort of underway as well. the third album is in planning stages (for release no earlier than 2010), and if I'...
