delays 'n' stuff

the Music for Nucleonics master tape was recorded today; the copies will be produced very soon (i.e. in a week or two). sorry about the delays and stuff but school and stuff... interesting enough I just might make my self-imposed deadline for Cleanse and it's currently shaping up to be totally awesome. of course.

woo tapes

tapes arrived today by the gracious post. the first batch is going to be copied during holiday break (yes, I never rest) and can start being distributed soon after. repost of the button in case you missed it (it's confirmed to be working now):

music for nucleonics release

the date is probably gonna get pushed back if I manage to get some cassettes lined up. extremely limited, of course, and downloads will still be available. updated cover: here

release updates

I've been holding out long enough, I suppose. here's what's coming out in the next couple of months. 1. Music for Nucleonics another experimental EP; this is that noise stuff I mentioned earlier in the summer. tentative release date is December 2. I think I have a bit more to work out with the mix. tracks: 1) Decay I 2) Sferic 3) Decay II 2. Cleanse my second full-length album that I've been steadily cranking away at since the summer. it's not even done being recorded yet (but it's close!) but I have a lot of details worked out about it. tentative release date is January 2009. tracks: 1) Cleanse: Tower to Sky 2) Syzygy 3) Solace 4) Tidal 5) Cassini I 6) Cassini II 7) Voyager 8) New Truth 9) Terminus ad quem cover: here 3. Tidal the first single to Cleanse , and a single proper, with a b-side and everything! probably out in like February.

anyway

wow, so yeah, sorry I'm not really keeping up with this as much as I should have; I guess I've been busy with school or something? well, anyway, I now have my bass and I've been practicing some lines, but I'm not going to do any recording until my thumbs heal from their separate tragic accidents. I wrote one more song, too, and have to record that and throw it in... still no title or cover. I'm having a lot of trouble with that, though I guess it's not a big deal until it's closer to being done.

update

recording of guitars is totally done, assuming I don't make any last-minute changes or additions. all the pieces still need fitted together, except for maybe two or three songs. following that, vocal selections and bass guitar. I don't even know when I'm going to have my bass with me next. regardless, things are coming along awesomely. still no overall title or cover art, but I'm working on that.

progress

vocals are finished being recorded. I'm moving back down to Columbus Friday, where I will hopefully begin tracking guitar parts. in the meantime, I've been working on the arrangement and soundscapes. it's all coming along quite nicely.

a quick word about two great applications I use while making my music. the screenshots link to the software sites. audacity "Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to record live audio; convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs; edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV or AIFF sound files; cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together." I'm sure that a lot of amateur computer musicians/engineers already use Audacity, and it really is the best raw audio recorder/editor I've seen. the design is simple enough that it can be used for kust about anything, but it has a load of flexibility too. also, it's free. melody assistant "Melody Assistant is dedicated to music writing, printing and rendering. Easy to use, Melody Assistant offers a user-friendly interface and powerful capabilities. Now used by a very active community of thousands of people, it has become a favored

updates

if you haven't noticed, I did put in an audio streamer not too long ago. stashbox , while normally reliable, didn't handle it too well and I've now relocated it to Google, where it seems to be working just fine. I'll probably expand the playlist soon. new music: currently I've got just over half an hour or so of songs written for the new album, and a few snippets of guitar and vocals recorded. also I did mention earlier about having another EP—I don't know when, if ever, I'm going to release it.

what am I doing now?

here I am, hours after I meant to go to bed, finding myself compiling some strange sound collage that I didn't even plan on making, ever. perhaps it's the new software, or maybe the late hour, or even the Jazzkammer; regardless, I made noise. I wonder what will become of it. in other news, I'm considering getting a song streamer thing for this site. that'd be neat.

what I am doing now

aside from accidentally bashing my guitar on things, going to work, and listening to music more than I should be, I'm working on writing new music, as I've said. I've only got about a month left before I head back to Columbus, where I will be without an amplifier and likely a microphone, so I'm recording jams and feedback and noise while making feeble attempts at writing and recording vocals while I have time. when I get back to school, I probably won't have as much time to crank stuff out. I've had a few interesting concepts for what the new studio album is going to be like, which I'm not going to divulge at the moment in case it ruins anything. I am planning on releasing it early next year (hopefully; I guess it depends on a lot of things). I'm also throwing around ideas about a couple new EPs as well, with some sort of re-composition theme. (of others' work.) and though that sounds really lame, it's not. trust me. eh. I seem to like EPs a lot

Lifting of the Veil

Lifting of the Veil [EP] by Deterior I am very pleased to release my newest EP, entitled Lifting of the Veil . A bit more experimental, a bit more noisy/drony. label: GarageMonkey Productions (GMP-005) format: digital file released: 15 July 2008 time: 19:26 recorded and engineered by Andrew Arnold in Basement Studio during June 2008 mixed and mastered by Andrew Arnold in Basement Studio during July 2008 cover art: Katsushika Hokusai credits this record was entirely produced by deterior; however various sound samples used were kindly borrowed from the following: freesound users digifishmusic, jackwheatley, ERH, oyenstikker, nicstage, Pooleside, the_semen_incident. all content remains copyright © the original owner.

lifting of the veil release date (2)

yes. stuff is done. Tuesday, July 15.

lifting of the veil release date

next week (the 15th), at the earliest. sorry, but I've been really busy with work and stuff. summer is a bitch. in other news, I'm also working on a new album when I find scraps of time. actually I have a song already. you will like it.

spire: official release date

Monday, June 30. as previously stated, there are three mixes of "Spire", one for "Antimonument", and one for "Sunrise and Delusion". details will follow at the release. p.s.: Lifting of the Veil is coming out (I hope) the week after; I still gotta get the bass ironed out but that shouldn't take long.

spire preview

I've posted the mix of "Antimonument" that appears on Spire over at last.fm; you can listen to it here . oh and don't bother trying to click the "buy mp3" links, they don't work; amazon.com doesn't have any of my music.

new stuff (2)

okay, so I figured I'd reveal a little info (what's been confirmed so far) about the new releases. Spire still isn't finished. I hope to get one more remix from a friend but haven't heard back from him with it at this point. consequently, I've not really been working on the other mixes so much. but I still really hope to put this out soon. and so, the mysterious new ep... I am wrapping up recording bass (and vocals!) for it and doing a load of mixing. the ep is called Lifting of the Veil and will have 3 tracks, running around 17-18 minutes or so. so far it's turning out to be a lot more experimental than my previous stuff; I think it's really great though... but we'll see, I guess. it'll probably be out in July.

new stuff

already I have the beginnings of a new release. there is a title, a cover, and quite a bit of music waiting for more work to be put into it. spire remixes are on their way. soon...

the future

okay so, I realize it's been a while since I posted anything... reception of Antimonument has been great so far, which I'm very proud of. the Spire ep is still in the works. I have no idea when it's coming out since I don't have all the guest remixes yet and haven't even finished my own, but I hope to have it out this month. in the meantime, I've been really busy wrapping up the end of the school year and am getting my stuff packed to move back home for the summer. my bass and guitar went home a while ago, but I have some new material to play around with and will hopefully have something new within the next few months. I'm looking at another ep perhaps. anyway, I'll try to keep this updated as things happen.

Antimonument

Antimonument by Deterior I am very pleased to finally release this: my first full-length album, entitled Antimonument . rather than give an overview of this piece, I'd rather let the art speak for itself. CD-R ($7 USD + s&h): label: GarageMonkey Productions (GMP-003) format: digital file / CD-R released: 20 May 2008 time: 59:14 recorded and engineered by Andrew Arnold in Basement Studio and Studio 1004 from December–May 2008 mixed and mastered by Andrew Arnold in Studio 1004 during May 2008 (with some oversight by D.A.) cover art: Thomas Cole additional music on track 7: Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. tracklist: Sunrise and Delusion (11:35) Eyes of the Blind (7:23) The Goddess (6:17) A Thin, Nameless Noise (part 1) (7:42) Antimonument (9:45) Spire (6:38) A Thin, Nameless Noise (part 2) (3:38) Sunset and Destroyer (6:17) credits this record was entirely produced by deterior; however various sound samples used were kindly borrowed from the following: noiseth

the time has come

mixing is done. mastering is done. the final pieces are falling into place, one by one. may 20.

mixing (2)

so mixing is about 95% done. it's sounding amazing at the moment; it's astonishing what one can learn doing this on one's own. I need to make a few more tweaks to the sound but it's looking like the record may drop next week or the week after. that's what I'm hoping, anyway. Spire is coming together as well (however slowly); it'll be out after the album. currently, it's shaping up to include three alternate mixes of "spire", one of "antimonument", and one of "sunset and destroyer". I don't want to say any more yet because the details are really sketchy at the moment.

mixing

recording is now totally done. (well, it was done several days ago, actually, but I've been busy.) mixing is going splendidly as of now, especially since I've actually been working on the mix from very early on. I hope to have everything finished by the end of the month (sooner, if possible), but since the end of the quarter has been a bit crazy I'm not entirely sure about it. now is also a good time to mention the remix ep. I've asked a few friends to provide remixes of "spire" to be released around the same time. more updates on that will be posted here so keep an eye out.

bass

Image
bass is done. only two (maybe three) tracks' worth of drums are left to be completed. here's a neato poster I made, too.

freesound

"The Freesound Project: A web community for free and open exchange of sounds." possibly one of the best sound databases I've ever seen. about 75% of the sampling I've done for Antimonument has come from sounds obtained from this site. lots of effects, field recordings, soundscapes, etc.

World

Image
this is my first release, a five-song EP that came out in September 2007. it isn't exactly something I'm proud of anymore, considering how much I believe I've changed musically since it came out, but everyone has to start somewhere. it is no longer available for download, and will never be re-released. label: GarageMonkey Productions (GMP-001) format: digital file, limited CD-R released: 7 September 2007 time: 29:54 recorded and engineered by Andrew Arnold in Basement Studio from summer 2006–summer 2007 mixed and mastered by Kevin Crowl in Basement Studio in September 2007 cover art: Deterior tracklist: Steeper (5:56) What I Leave (6:44) [untitled] (2:21) Dividation (6:19) World (8:34)

welcome

this is the new official deterior blog. this is likely to somewhat replace the awkwardness of myspace , though I'll still be using that to post major news items and new music. about the project: formed in the u.s. 2004; one ep out and one lp in the works, independently released in mp3 format only (though if you ask nicely I could spin a cd-r your way). style is an amalgamation of metal, prog, post-anything, ambient, noise. so: news. progress on Antimonument is coming along splendidly. it's hard to say exactly where I am in the process, since I tend to do many different things all at once, but I'm currently finishing recording bass and drum tracks (only a few left to go) and mixing the whole thing. a preview of the sixth track and something of a single, "Spire", can be heard on the myspace (however, it's not close to being done yet). I'm throwing around the idea of a maxi single + remixes at some point, but who knows. World can still be downloaded for fre
